Because we understand that financial flexibility is of significant importance, Hunslet Engine Company customers can choose a business package that suits their operational requirements. Locomotives are readily available for immediate lease hire or outright purchase. Business packages can be arranged to incorporate full service and maintenance cover for short, medium or long-term hire. If required, short-term hire can be arranged whilst customers’ own locomotives are being repaired or overhauled.

Field service and replacement parts

Our dedicated team of service technicians provides rapid response to any engineering breakdown, 24/7, 364 days a year. Multi-skilled and conversant with the majority of locomotive types, they cover both diesel and electric powered traction systems. All field service related activities are controlled from our Leeds Spare Parts/Service centre, which includes facilities for the procurement of, and access to, an extensive range of specialised spare parts or complete service exchange units.

We still supply spare parts for our early manufactured steam locomotives as well as our diesel and electric locomotives that have been manufactured over the years.

Hunslet’s on-site training programmes can help your organisation to achieve higher standards. Technical update and refresher courses ensure that your technicians are aware of the latest techniques and advancements in locomotive operation and maintenance. Courses are tailored to suit your individual requirements and carried out either on your site or at our specialist training facilities in Leeds.

Wheelsets
A complete service for all types of locomotive wheelsets is provided: re-tyring, re-wheeling, re-profiling. All wheelwork is subject to strict quality audits. Non-destructive testing, magnetic particle inspection, ultrasonic and ultraviolet axle testing form part of customer service.

Overseas representation
Hunslet Engine Company sales engineers and agents worldwide are available to support railway operators.

Commissioning
Service technicians are available to visit site and help to support customers with their new or refurbished installations.

Local Manufacture
Local manufacture of complete locomotives, power and transmission equipment, components to Hunslet Engine Company designs, inclusive of advice and initial project management by Hunslet personnel at site.

Accident damage
Locomotives that have suffered collisions can be inspected and surveyed to ascertain damage incurred. Depending on the severity of the damage, the vehicle can be repaired on site or returned to our works where further detailed inspection and rectification can be carried out.
